Welcome to My Town
Burlington, Wisconsin
I live in a quaint little town in the southeast corner of Racine County, Burlington, Wisconsin. There are many historical places to visit as well as Civil War era homes and the towns gardens are some of the best in the area.
Primitive decorating doesn't have to just be for the inside of our home. Years ago when our grandmothers were young the garden was their exterior decorating.
Flower gardens grew flowing and abundant in almost every yard, especially in the rural areas where then sun could shine down freely on these beautiful colorful patches of Gods beauty. Many city homes had small garden alongside their homes or near the back of their property. And most of these gardens were used for cutting flowers to decorate the inside of their homes when decorative items were scarce and if it wasn't necessary they didn't buy it so flowers were the added touch of beauty.
Here you see Legacy Gardens located next to the Burlington Historical Society

Driving through Burlington you will see many of the towns garden spots like this one at the entrance of our Riverfront with the old clock taking us back in 'time' with the look of a 19th century clock

You will come across many little shops like this one with proud Sunflowers inviting you to visit, and outback there is a hen house now used for antiques with gardens dotting the yard making a path to the house.

Our historic Pioneer Cabin dating from 1850 sits in our town square surrounded by flowing Hollyhocks, Daisies, purple Coneflower's and Day Lilies

Drive along any country road and you'll see it is dotted with many primitive homes dating back to the 1800's, some stand alone and some are warm homes to loving families who appreciate the wonderful character of their stone walls.
Shown here is a stone house from 1846 and the same home today.

Sometimes by adding an old tin container holding spring flowers along with some birdhouses will make any setting look primitive, warm and inviting. Or add a birdhouse here and there in your garden. Potted plants along with old wicker chairs make a warm primitive setting.

Burlington has gained a reputation and a name as Chocolate City, USA.

In 1987, Wisconsin governor Tommy Thompson and the Wisconsin state legislature officially designated Burlington as such, in honor of the Nestle Chocolate and Confection Company's 20-year anniversary in our city. Since that time, Burlington has celebrated America's favorite flavor with a three-day ChocolateFest each year in May. Music, children's activities, a Chocolate Parade and of course, CHOCOLATE! Chocolate Fest is a wonderful family activity as well as an event in which the entire community participates.
